What Is MyPoints?

MyPoints is a GPT (get-paid-to) site that helps you earn points by completing activities. It was launched in 1996 and has been active since then. In 2016, MyPoints was purchased by Prodege, the company that owns Swagbucks and several other GPT sites.

mypoints homepage

MyPoints has a score of 4.4 out of 5 stars on Trustpilot as of this writing. This is considered an “Excellent” score. There are over 23,000 reviews of MyPoints on Trustpilot.

Pricing and Redeeming Rewards

The beauty of get-paid-to sites like MyPoints is that they are free and you get paid for joining. In addition to frequent signup bonuses, you are paid to complete various activities.

When you’re ready to redeem your points for rewards, click on the All Rewards button on your page once you’ve signed in. Note that MyPoints has a minimum $3 payout on rewards.

You can choose between e-gift cards and regular gift cards. Gift cards and e-gift cards are available from popular retailers such as PayPal, Amazon, Walmart, and more.

Once you choose your rewards and redeem your points by clicking on the Get Rewarded button, your gift card will be sent to you.

There are no fees for redeeming points. You can earn rewards points in a number of ways by using MyPoints.

One of the highest-earning activities on MyPoints is shopping. When you access store websites through the MyPoints portal, you can earn up to 40% back on your purchases.

The percentage of cash you earn on your purchases depends on the store you’re shopping at, what you buy and other factors.

You might get a straight cash back percentage, or get a coupon or promo code for your purchase.

It’s important that you don’t browse at other stores mid-purchase when on MyPoints. Click on the store, shop, add to cart and then checkout. This will ensure you get your cash back bonus points

Note that tracking and ad blocker settings can disable MyPoints from being able to track the purchases you’ve made, so you’ll want to be sure both settings are turned off.

Paid Surveys

MyPoints will also pay you for taking surveys. The surveys are meant to help retailers and other organizations learn more about shopping and other habits so that they can better design and improve products and services.

You will have to answer some qualification questions before you’re admitted to a survey. However, you can still earn points if you answer the qualification questions and aren’t accepted for a survey.

You’ll be rewarded with points for every survey you complete.

Fun and Games

You can also earn points for playing games on the MyPoints site. The games are free to play, and include trivia, bingo, puzzles and other games.

Note that some of the games MyPoints offers do cost money to play. For that reason, you’ll want to ensure you read the fine print if you’re looking to play free games only.

You will earn more by playing the games that cost money, and you may be eligible to enter sweepstakes contests as well. However, what you spend may not be recouped by your winnings.

Cash Back on Grocery Purchases

When you shop at grocery stores and scan your receipts with the MyPoints app, you can earn cash back.

According to MyPoints, you’ll save on every purchase of groceries and household staples. Purchases need to be made at partner stores such as Walmart, Target, Kroger and Safeway. See the MyPoints website for a complete list of participating grocery stores.

Special Offers

MyPoints offers special deals to its members. It might be a promotional price for trying out a service, or a sweet deal on a product.

For example, you might earn points for signing up for a free trial of a streaming service or qualify for a discount on a meal delivery service. However, as with some games, you’ll have to spend money to do so.

BonusMail

MyPoints sends out regular emails called BonusMail. These emails contain special offers on products, services and more.

You will earn rewards for taking advantage of BonusMail deals. However, you can earn points simply for clicking on the email as well.

BonusMail emails pay five points just for opening the email.

Referral Program

When you refer someone who opens a MyPoints account using your referral code, you’ll earn 25 points.

However, the deal can get sweeter as time goes on. If your referral spends at least $20 via MyPoints’ online shopping portal within the first month of membership, you’ll earn an additional 750 points.

From there on, you’ll earn 10% of all of the points your referral earns. There are no limits on how many points you can earn or how many people you can refer to MyPoints. Just be sure that your referrals are signing up using your individual referral link.

Search the Web

As with competitor sites such as Swagbucks, MyPoints will give you points just for searching the web in your MyPoints browser.

However, these points are awarded randomly and you never know if you’re going to earn by searching or not. In other words, only plan on search points as an unexpected bonus.

Don’t put too much effort into trying to earn points via this method.

MyPoints vs. Alternatives

Swagbucks

swagbucks logo

Swagbucks, like MyPoints, is owned by Prodege. As one of the most popular GPT sites, Swagbucks has paid out over $584 million to date.

Swagbucks helps you to earn points (called SB) by answering surveys, shopping online, playing games, taking the daily poll and more. You can also earn points by referring friends to Swagbucks and by taking advantage of offers.

You can use the points you’ve earned via Swagbucks to get PayPal cash or gift cards to stores like Amazon and Walmart.

There’s a low minimum cashout threshold of just $3 with Swagbucks. One glaring difference between Swagbucks and MyPoints is that Swagbucks offers many more retailer options when it comes to its online shopping portal.

This, of course, translates into more ways to earn points. Swagbucks also has more promotional offers and sweepstakes contests. Read our full Swagbucks review to learn more.

  • Making purchases

And more. Although Freecash doesn’t have as many earning options as MyPoints, the earning options are still easy enough to complete. You can cash once you’ve reached the threshold for the type of reward you want.

With the coins (points) you earn, you can cash out via bank transfer or PayPal. You can also get gift cards from popular retailers, or you can buy bitcoin with your coins.

Freecash also has a referral program where you can earn coins when people sign up using your referral code. This program is generous in that the more your referral earns, the higher commission you get.

So if you do join Freecash, be sure to take advantage of the company’s general referral program.

InboxDollars

inbox dollars logo

InboxDollars is a GPT site that launched in 2000. As with most GPT sites, you can get paid for completing a variety of activities.

You can get paid for completing surveys, for playing games and for shopping online. In addition, you can get paid for grocery shopping and reading emails.

One way that InboxDollars differs from many GPT sites is that you don’t earn points; you earn actual cash.

As your cash earnings accumulate, you can choose to use the money to get PayPal cash, a Visa gift card or a retailer gift card.

The minimum payout threshold for your first payment is $15. After that, you can cash out when your earnings reach at least $10.

InboxDollars has a referral program as well. When you get friends to sign up for InboxDollars using your referral code, you’ll earn $3 for each sign up.

After that, you’ll earn 10% of your referral’s earnings each month. There is no cap on how much you can earn through referrals.

Summary

MyPoints can be a great way to earn some extra cash if you’re browsing on your phone anyway, or in a situation where you’re waiting for an appointment or some other event.

However, MyPoints isn’t going to make you rich. And it’s important to keep in mind that you can easily spend more than what you earn if you’re not careful.
